Hey all, I feel like every season, I’m releasing less and less designs! Things are changing around here and part of me feel unmotivated part of the time. ANYWAYS!! This beanie has been in the works since February, but I never got around to writing the pattern.
I really had fun with this cable knit beanie. I decided to create both a worsted weight and bulky version. I normally like working with worsted weight, but I noticed a lot of people using bulky weight yarn to make their hats. I can see why, it’s fast and squishy!
First I wanted to name this hat the “nautical” Davey because I read that this type of cable is a nautical cable. After awhile, I started not liking it as much and went with the Davey beanie, kept it simple and easy to remember.
Since I’m still a cable knit noobie, I wasn’t sure how much increase I should add. I started off increasing a little bit, but quickly realized that the overall hat was too tight. After a second try, I was able to make it fit a lot better.

Overall, this is my second knit pattern and I enjoy being able to take my time. I’m starting to enjoy doing cable knits. When I first started, I didn’t really like it at all because it took forever! I think I’m getting a little bit faster and looking forward to making some more. One issue we came upon on this design was the estimated yardage. I measure yardage based on the brand I am using. This could mean, with different brands, you may or may not use more yardage. The estimated yardage I provide isn’t translatable to the hundreds of different brands, thickness, etc. So take it as a guidance!
